‘Leprechaun’ reboot in the works at Lionsgate

Leprechaun is to be rebooted by Lionsgate.

The original horror series, which spanned six films between 1993 and 2003, starred Warwick Davis as the evil creature of folk law.

Lionsgate is reviving the franchise in conjunction with WWE Studios as part of a two-film deal between the two firms. They previously collaborated on See No Evil, starring wrestler Kane, and The Condemned with Steve Austin.

“We’ve been looking for ways to continue our relationship with Lionsgate,” WWE’s Michael Luisi told Variety. “We saw Leprechaun as the perfect opportunity to take a well-known franchise and put a modern-day spin on it.

“This is a property we believe our audience will respond to, and we continue to look for ways to surprise and engage them.”

Davis last appeared as the malevolent Leprechaun in 2003’s direct-to-DVD release Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood. A cast and director for the remake have not been announced.
