Rachel McAdams is confirmed to be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming sequel to 2009’s Sherlock Holmes.
The actress played female lead Irene Adler in Guy Ritchie’s re-imagining of the classic literary character, but until now had remained tight-lipped as to her involvement in film’s sequel.
According to EW, Warner Bros. has now confirmed that McAdams will reprise her role as Adler for a short appearance.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are to return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson respectively, while Mad Men actor Jared Harris takes on the iconic role of Holmes’s nemesis Professor Moriarty.
Replacing McAdams as the film’s female lead is Noomi Rapace, best known for playing the titular character in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
The sequel to Sherlock Holmes is due for release on December 16.
