Warner Bros will reboot Chevy Chase’s Fletch series as an action-comedy, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie will be based on Gregory McDonald’s investigative reporter I.M. Fletcher, who appeared in 11 novels spanning from 1974 to 1994.

Chase starred as the character in the 1985 movie Fletch and its 1989 sequel Fletch Lives. The new project, which is yet to hire a writer or director, will not be related to the earlier films.

Clerks director Kevin Smith was previously attached to make a Fletch movie with Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Joshua Jackson rumoured for the lead role. Bill Lawrence was also once involved in reviving the Fletch series, citing his then Scrubs star Zach Braff as a potential leading man.
