Announced this afternoon, the network has officially renewed “The Resident” and “9-1-1” for their third seasons. They now join “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers,” and “Family Guy” on a slowly growing list of FOX shows renewed for the 2019-20 TV season.

Both shows are produced by the network’s former sister studio, 20th Century Fox TV, which as of last week, is now owned by Disney. “The Resident” and “9-1-1” are now FOX’s first scripted originals to be renewed since the Disney sale was closed.

FOX Entertainment President, Michael Thorn, commented on the pair of renewals with the following:

“9-1-1 redefined what a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television. Kudos to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Tim Minear, and their entire crew, as well as the amazing cast anchored by Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Jennifer Love Hewitt for raising the bar week after week.

Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan, and the team behind ‘The Resident’ continue to showcase their brilliant storytelling, revealing both the triumphs and tragedy within the medical world. Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, and Bruce Greenwood, along with the stellar cast, have developed rich and compelling characters through their heartfelt performances. We want to thank our producing partners, 20th Century Fox Television, who have steered these two extraordinary series. Both ‘9-1-1’ and ‘The Resident’ have many, many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to deliver them to fans next season.”

“9-1-1” currently ranks as FOX’s No. 1 drama, and has averaged a solid 1.5 live + same day rating in adults 18-49 with 6.22 million viewers, while “The Resident” has averaged a 1.0 rating with 5.04 million viewers, slightly up from its first season’s 4.54 million viewer average. Combined, the two shows have delivered a +24% year-over-year Monday night primetime growth for FOX.

New episodes of “The Resident” and “9-1-1” air Monday nights on FOX.
