USA is saying goodbye to its period action drama, “Damnation”



The network announced that it would not be moving forward with a second season of the series this afternoon, just a week after “Damnation” concluded airing its first season.

Created by Tony Tost, the series took place in the 1930s in an Iowa small town, and focused on the character of Seth Davenport, a man masquerading as a preacher, but who harbored plans for a full-blown insurrection against the town’s status quo. However, Seth’s plans are thrown into chaos when an industrialist tycoon enlists a professional killer to stop him and anyone else from disrupting his business, unaware that Seth shares a bloody past with the new killer.

In addition to posting a rich period setting and wide range of characters, the series had also wrangled together an impressive cast for itself. Amongst those were Killian Scott and Logan Marshall-Green as the show’s two leading men, along with Sarah Jones, Chasten Harmon, Christopher Heyerdahl, Joe Adler, and more.

Despite the show’s impressive creative talent, however, “Damnation” was met with only mildly positive to negative reviews when it premiered back in November of last year. In case that wasn’t enough, though, “Damnation” never quite managed to establish a foothold for itself in the ratings either.

After raking in some okay numbers with its premiere, the series experienced a significant drop in its viewership throughout the rest of the first season, averaging only a 0.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 682,000 viewers. So while the show’s scope and ambition may have been large, the numbers it pulled in, weren’t nearly as epic.
