Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter's new FX series Bastard Executioner will star his wife Katey Sagal, True Blood's Stephen Moyer and The Americans' Matthew Rhys.



FX announced the official cast today (February 24) for Sutter's drama series about a 14th century knight (Lee Jones) who has to return to violence after swearing off killing.

Sagal has been cast as the beautiful soothsayer Annora of the Alders, while Sutter himself is playing her mute protector.

Bastard Executioner will also feature Moyer as the cunning Chancellor Milus Corbett, Defiance's Sam Spruell as a former Welsh rebel fighter, Darren Evans of Galavant as a trapper called Ash y Goedwig and Flora Spencer-Longhurst as Welsh noblewoman Baroness Lowry 'Love' Aberffraw Ventris.

Other cast members for the series include Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful), Sarah White (Moone Boy) and Sarah Sweeney.

Former Sons of Anarchy cast member Timothy V Murphy will also appear as a soldier-turned-priest, with SOA's Paris Barclay directing the pilot.

Rhys is initially set to appear in the pilot as the leader of the Welsh rebels, and is expected to recur as his schedule with The Americans permits.

Production is expected to begin in Wales next month.

FX's announcement of an all-star cast for Sutter's pilot follows just two months after his previous series Sons of Anarchy ended its seven-season run on the network.
