Showtime promised a whole new generation of characters in its Twin Peaks revival - and now we know that one will be played by Amanda Seyfried.



The Hollywood superstar – known for high-profile parts in Les Misérables and Mean Girls - will have a mystery recurring role in the new Twin Peaks, reports TV Line.

Speculation is already running rampant on social media as to who Seyfried could be playing. Just don't ask the owls - we all know they're not what they seem!

Seyfried is the first new cast member to be revealed, as production begins on the miniseries in the Pacific Northwest.

Very little is known about the plot of Twin Peaks season three, other than that Kyle MacLachlan will definitely be back as FBI special agent Dale Cooper.

Earlier today, original cast members Mädchen Amick and Dana Ashbrook also hinted that they're busy filming the revival by posing together seemingly on the Twin Peaks set.

Other returning members of the Twin Peaks team are writers Mark Frost and David Lynch, as well as composer Angelo Badalamenti.

Twin Peaks season three could air next year – although there is no definite episode count yet.
