Kevin Costner's schedule is reportedly causing problems

Paramount+ has responded to shocking reports that Yellowstone with Kevin Costner is coming to an end.

Deadline first reported late Monday (February 9) that series creator Taylor Sheridan plans to end the record-breaking Yellowstone and move some of the cast over to a spinoff series.

The situation apparently developed because Costner only wanted to spend one week filming his scenes for the second-half of the fifth season to accommodate his own Western project Horizon— a proposal apparently rejected by Paramount.

Sheridan is said to have started working on a companion show that would introduce Matthew McConaughey as a new leading character, to be joined by some familiar faces.

Paramount declined to either confirm or deny whether Yellowstone will be ending, though it stressed that Costner remains involved in the fifth season.

A spokesperson said: "We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.

"Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner."

This news is sure to surprise fans because Yellowstone actor Wes Bentley had just been speaking publicly about how Sheridan had a long-running plan for the end of the series.

Just last week, Paramount ordered a second season of the Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren-led prequel series 1923 — and has already had success with an even earlier prequel, 1883.

Sheridan is hugely busy, as he also produces the Sylvester Stallone crime drama Tulsa King and Jeremy Renner's political drama series Mayor of Kingstown.

Yellowstone is expected to return for the second-half of its fifth season later this year on Paramount+.
