NBC will be bringing back another one of its freshman titles next year

The network has officially renewed “Manifest” for a second season today, the news of which comes almost two months after the series wrapped up its first season earlier this year. It is now NBC’s second scripted rookie series to be picked up for a second season, following “New Amsterdam’s” renewal back in February.

Created by Jeff Rake, “Manifest” follows the passengers of a routine, but turbulent flight, who, after landing, discover that the world has aged five years while they were in the air. It stars Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina, Parveen Kaur, and more.

“In just its first season, ‘Manifest’ has answered many questions about the mystery of Flight 828 and, smartly, asks many more,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming at NBC Entertainment. “Congratulations to [creator] Jeff Rake, our producers, cast and crew who have created an incredibly addictive series with compelling characters and complex relationships.”

“Manifest” scored the best premiere rating of any new series this season, but suffered a noticeable ratings decline throughout its season. Still, the series averaged a solid 1.3 live + same day rating in adults 18-49 with 6.48 million viewers, and went on to average a 2.8 rating and 12.6 million viewers in the live +7 ratings – making it the highest-rated rookie scripted series of the season.

“Manifest” is now NBC’s eleventh scripted title to be renewed for next season, joining “New Amsterdam,” “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Good Girls,” “Superstore,” “The Blacklist,” “Will & Grace,” “Brooklyn Nine-NIne,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “The Good Place” on the network’s 2019-20 schedule.
