The series, which is both the longest-running scripted original drama on The CW and the longest-running live-action sci-fi/fantasy series in the history of U.S. TV, will conclude after its 15th season. Season 15, which had already been announced, will consist of 20 episodes, much like season 14.

The announcement was made Friday by stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Mischa Collins on Ackles’s Twitter account. Accompanying the video containing the news, Ackles wrote: “Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in ‘Supernatural’…does it?”

Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb also addressed the ending of the monumental series, issuing the following statement: “Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the sendoff they deserve.”

“Supernatural,” which was originally envisioned as a 3 season series by creator Eric Kripke, became the sole holdover from the former WB Network. By the time of its conclusion, it will have aired nearly 330 episodes. It is produced by Warner Bros. Television in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Ratings-wise, “Supernatural” is something of a juggernaut for its channel. Regularly scoring an average of around 2.4 million viewers per episode, the series tends to land in the range of a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49. Using this metric, it outperforms nearly every one of its fellow series on The CW by a significant margin.

Truly, this marks the end of an era for The CW. In addition to the end of “Supernatural,” “Crazy Ex Girlfriend” will air its final episode in April, and “Jane the Virgin” will conclude after its own 5th season. Another of The CW’s staples, “Arrow,” will itself finish after season 8.
