The CW has set a premiere date for one of its midseason series: “Black Lightning” will debut Tuesday, Jan. 16



The show, from creators Salim and Mara Brock Akil, will take over the 9 p.m. Tuesday spot following “The Flash.” Its current occupant, “Legends of Tomorrow,” wraps up its fall run on Dec. 5 and will return later in the season — whether back to Tuesdays or to a different spot on the schedule, The CW hasn’t said.

The network also has yet to reveal a premiere date for its other new series, “Life Sentence,” returning shows “The 100” and “iZombie” or the final season of “The Originals.”

“Black Lightning” stars Cress Williams (“Hart of Dixie,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) as Jefferson Pierce, who in a former life was the superhero Black Lightning. He’s now a school principal but may find himself drawn back into his former life.

The series also stars Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain and Christine Adams.

The CW has also set return dates for the remainder of its current lineup after the end-of-year hiatus. They are as follows (all times ET/PT):
