The future of the superhero series is reportedly uncertain

The future of Supergirl is up in the air right now following middling TV ratings.

The audience figures aren't bad, but when taking into account that it's a very costly show to make – reportedly $3 million per episode – it's understandable that CBS would expect better returns.

TheWrap claims that CBS and Warner Bros. Television are locked in conversations about how to bring the superhero series back, and the answer may lie in a network move.

CBS's sister network The CW has been touted as a possible new home, which given that Supergirl had a crossover episode with The Flash this season, wouldn't necessarily be a surprise. The Melissa Benoist-starring show would suit The CW's young demographic, too.

Such a move would mean significant budget cuts, another reason why it's being suggested.

None of this is confirmed, though. But this is the month when networks will be announcing their schedules for 2016 and 2017, so we won't have to wait long.

Supergirl's executive producer previously said that she was optimistic that the show will be back, adding that she's heard "very positive things, unofficially" from CBS CEO Les Moonves.

Her comments echo those made by star David Harewood.

Supergirl REALLY could be moving to The CW alongside Arrow and The Flash next fall!

Negotiations for Supergirl to move from CBS to The CW for a potential second season are apparently intensifying.

A week after news of the potential network jump emerged, Deadline reports that serious talks between CBS and The CW to make such a move happen, could conclude as early as today (May 11).

One stumbling block is a potential budget cuts Supergirl would endure to move to The CW, although producers are apparently working to cut costs by shifting production from Los Angeles to Vancouver.

If Supergirl does fly to a new home on The CW, it would be airing alongside fellow DC Comics series Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

A connection between those worlds was already explored in a crossover of The Flash onto Supergirl earlier this season, when Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) became temporarily trapped in Kara's (Melissa Benoist) alternate version of earth.

Supergirl premiered on CBS to much fan-fare, and has earned modest ratings throughout its freshman season.

It's official: Supergirl is coming back for season two - but on The CW rather than CBS

Supergirl is officially coming back for season two - but she'll be soaring from CBS over to The CW.

A network swap was announced on Thursday (May 12), meaning Supergirl will now air on the same channel as fellow DC Comics shows Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Talks between The CW and CBS had been on-going for weeks, even going past CBS's planned Wednesday (May 11) deadline for deciding on Supergirl's future.

One stumbling block was a potential budget cut in moving to The CW, but producers are now slashing costs by shifting production from Los Angeles to Vancouver.

Such a move will mean that Supergirl's production base will be in the same city where Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow all currently shoot.

A connection between the ArrowVerse and Supergirl was already explored in a crossover of The Flash onto Supergirl earlier this season, when Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) became temporarily trapped in Kara's (Melissa Benoist) alternate version of earth.

It remains to be seen which night of the week Supergirl will take up on The CW's already-packed primetime lineup.

Supergirl soars over to The CW: Watch Kara unite with Green Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow

Excitement for Supergirl's flight to The CW continues to soar with the launch of not one but TWO brand new teasers

At Thursday's Upfronts presentation, The CW unveiled its first sneak preview of Melissa Benoist in action as she teams with Arrow, The Flash, Vixen and Legends of Tomorrow on her new network.

On top of including footage of The Flash meeting Kara in this past March's CBS crossover, there's even a brief snippet of her cousin - yes, Superman! - in the shadows.

The CW officially picked up Supergirl last Friday, after the DC Comics series originally launched on sister network CBS in the fall of 2015.

Adding to the excitement is that Supergirl will crossover with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow this fall as part of a four-night event - which Green Arrow actor Stephen Amell previously tipped as likely.

As a cost-cutting measure to justify its move to The CW, Supergirl will shift its production base from LA to Vancouver where Arrow and other DC Comics shows are shot.

Supergirl airs on Mondays at 8pm on The CW this fall, as part of a girl-power block with Jane the Virgin at 9pm ET.
