Ricky Gervais has confirmed that he will make a brief appearance on NBC's version of The Office.
It was recently reported that the comic will reprise his role as David Brent in a new episode, expected to air on January 27.
In a recent post on his official site, Gervais revealed that he had made the cameo as a favour to Steve Carell, who is departing his role as bumbling boss Michael Scott.
"Blink and you'll miss it, but [it is] just a little thanks to Steve Carell," he wrote. "A pleasure to work with the great man."
Gervais previously dismissed rumours that he was being considered as a full-time replacement for Carell.
The Office airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
