NBC renewed the workplace comedy Monday night, just ahead of its midseason return on Thursday. The series, which is both written and created by Justin Spitzer, follows Amy (America Ferrera), a diligent employee at the titular “Cloud 9” superstore, as she attempts to navigate the everyday chaos of her mundane workplace.

Ferrera is joined by co-stars Ben Feldman, Mark McKinney, Lauren Ashe, Nico Santos, and Nichole Bloom. Chrissy Metz of “This Is Us” is set to guest star as a human resources representative in an upcoming episode.

Lisa Katz and Tracy Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming at NBC Entertainment, addressed the renewal: “Week after week Justin Spitzer, our amazing writers, and cast and crew masterfully deliver a comedy that not only makes us laugh but speaks to the larger issues of the day.”

“Superstore” is produced by Universal Television, and has averaged a 1.4 live + 7 rating in adults 18-49 during its 8 p.m. time slot, with 4.4 million viewers per episode.

When the series returns to conclude its fourth season, it will lead into season 2 of “A.P. Bio.” “Superstore” joins a host of other Thursday night renewals at NBC, including “Brooklyn Nine Nine,” “The Good Place,” and “Will & Grace.”
