Joel McHale and Matt LeBlanc shows are also ordered



CBS kicked off its Friday programming announcements by green-lighting MacGyver and Training Day reboots as well as new comedies from Joel McHale and Matt LeBlanc.

Also picked up by the Tiffany Network today are departing NCIS star Michael Weatherly's Bull and Pure Genius, a medical drama from Friday Night Lights producer Jason Katims.

MacGyver will star Lucas Till as a young version of the international fixer, who teams with a world-weary conspiracy theorist (CSI veteran George Eads).

This CBS reimagining of MacGyver comes from Furious 7's James Wan and Henry Winkler, a producer on the original series.

CBS is simultaneously working on a MacGyver movie - although it is not expected to tie in with the TV series.

Gotham's Danny Cannon is bringing Training Day to the small screen, after original director Antoine Fuqua and star Ethan Hawke notably pulled out of the project earlier this year.

Justin Cornwell (Alpha House) will play an honest young cop partnered with a veteran (Agents of SHIELD star Bill Paxton) who shows no regard for following the letter of the law.

Ahead of his swanswong on NCIS next week, Michael Weatherly will be sticking around CBS for the legal drama Bull.

Bull dramatises the early years of McGraw's career as head of a company that analyses juries to help defence teams firm up their cases.

McGraw has worked with House and Homicide: Life on the Street veteran Paul Attanasio on the Bull pilot script.

Pure Genius - from Friday Night Lights producer Jason Katims - is a medical drama that casts Augustus Prew (Kick-Ass 2) as a young tech billionaire out to help his fellow man.

He partners with a veteran surgeon, who has plenty of his own demons to battle, in order to fundamentally challenge the way hospitals practise medicine.

As if he's not busy enough with Top Gear and the final series of Episodes, Matt LeBlanc's CBS pilot Man with a Plan has been picked up for the fall too.

While original co-star Jenna Fischer of The Office is out, LeBlanc will still play a contractor who discovers the foibles of parenthood when he starts spending more time at home with his wild kids.

LeBlanc is executive producing Man with a Plan, as well as starring.

Also coming back to TV is Community's Joel McHale, who'll star with comedy legend Stephen Fry and Christopher Mintz-Plasse in the upcoming Great Indoors.

McHale plays a former adventure reporter whose latest injury leaves him office-bound and frustrated with a staff of 20-somethings.
