NBC has axed The Mysteries of Laura after two seasons.

TVLine reports that Debra Messing's police comedy-drama was cancelled by the network, despite its season two finale drawing 7.4 million viewers in its best ratings in a year.

The Will & Grace star thanked the show's fans on Twitter after the cancellation.

"My dear Diamonds - our story has ended but it was a joyous story to tell. We are all so grateful to you for your love," Messing wrote.

She even responded to a fan's worry that we'll now never know what happened after Messing's character Laura kissed Jake (Josh Lucas).

"Let's say Jake called off the engagement and ran to Laura and they lived happily ever after," Messing surmised.

The Mysteries of Laura joins the bloodbath of US TV shows axed over the past week, including Castle, The Muppets and Marvel's Agent Carter.
