All in the Family star Jean Stapleton has died, aged 90.



The actress, who played the iconic role of Edith Bunker in the 1970s sitcom, passed away on Friday (May 31) of natural causes in New York City, according to TMZ.

Stapleton won three Emmy awards and two Golden Globes for her portrayal of Bunker, who she also played in spinoff show Archie Bunker's Place.

Most recently, she took on roles in Nora Ephron films Michael and You've Got Mail, and appeared on the CBS show Touched by an Angel.

Stapleton also made cameo appearances in Everybody Loves Raymond and Murphy Brown.

She is survived by her children John and Pamela.
