The CW has unveiled the first image of its new pilot The Carrie Diaries.



The pilot is a prequel to HBO's hit series Sex and the City about four best friends - played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon - who confide in each other about their relationships and sex lives while living in New York.

Race to Witch Mountain actress AnnaSophia Robb stars in the pilot as a high school age Carrie.

The Carrie Diaries producers have brought in Gossip Girl's costume designer Eric Daman to translate Carrie's popular style to the new pilot.

"It's a rare invitation to dress a character whose reputation truly precedes her," Daman said.

"Having played a hand in designing for the Carrie we know and love, I am honoured to be chosen to carry the torch - to illuminate the woman we know by discovering the young lady she was."

The Carrie Diaries also features Katie Findlay, Ellen Wong, Austin Butler and Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman.
