The animation just keeps on winning
Disney Pixar animation Coco has topped the US box office for the third consecutive week, earning $18.3 million.
The hit is about a young boy who is transported back to the land of the dead and must seek the help of his ancestors in order to return home to the living.
And according to Box Office Mojo, it's more alive than ever, joining The Hitman's Bodyguard, Split and Fate of the Furious as a 2017 title to top the domestic box office for three weekends in a row.
Behind Coco this week was Justice League, earning half of its competitor with $9.6 million – and Wonder, starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, gained $8.4 million.
Climbing eight places to fourth was The Disaster Artist, the movie starring James Franco, Dave Franco and Seth Rogen about the conception of cult film The Room.
James promoted the new movie while hosting Saturday Night Live last night (December 9), where he was upstaged by his celebrity pals.
Back in US cinemas, Thor: Ragnarok was the fifth biggest earner, Daddy's Home 2 was in #6, Murder on the Orient Express was in seven, The Star was eighth with Lady Bird falling one place from last week to nine.
Rounding off the top 10 was new movie Just Getting Started – an action-comedy starring Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones, Rene Russo and Elizabeth Ashley.
