New entry Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has taken the number one spot in the US box office with a $73m.



The sci-fi blockbuster knocks Transformers: Age of Extinction down to second place with $16.5m.

Melissa McCarthy's comedy Tammy is at third place with $12.91m, followed by comedy sequel 22 Jump Street in fourth place with $6.7m.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 is a non-mover in fifth spot with $5.865m, while family movie Earth to Echo stays at six with $5.5m.

Last week's number four Deliver Us From Evil is down to seven with $4.7m.

Begin Again is up from fifteenth spot to number nine with $2,935,00.

Maleficent and Jersey Boys complete the US box office top ten at number eight and number ten consecutively.
