David Fincher's The Social Network has taken the top spot in the US box office in its opening weekend.



The film stars Jesse Eisenberg as controversial Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg alongside co-stars Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake.

The Social Network took $23 million, ahead of Warner Bros fantasy animation Legend Of The Guardians with $10.9 million.

Last week's top film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps falls to third place, while Ben Affleck's thriller The Town enters in fourth.

The Emma Stone comedy Easy A rounds out the top five, while Inception finally falls out of the top ten after 11 weeks.
