TV star Chad Everett has died, aged 75.



The Mulholland Drive actor passed away at his Los Angeles home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Everett - who starred in CBS series Medical Center from 1969 to 1976 - had been battling lung cancer.

His other acting credits include 1982 film Airplane II: The Sequel, several appearances on Murder, She Wrote and a role on the original Melrose Place.

Recent roles included a stint on NBC's Undercovers and a 2009 guest appearance on Supernatural, in which he played the older Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles).

Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer) both took to Twitter to express their sadness at Everett's death.

"From Jensen and me... Rest In Peace Chad Everett. Gone too soon. The family has lost another," wrote Padalecki, while Beaver described the late star as "warm", "funny" and "charming".
