Elementary, a modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes set in New York, has been picked up after a successful pilot screening.

The series - similar to BBC One's Sherlock - will star Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu as Sherlock and Watson, while Aidan Quinn will also appear.

1960s drama Vegas has also been picked up, which stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Jason O'Mara and Carrie-Ann Moss. It follows the true story of Ralph Lamb, a cowboy turned sheriff in Las Vegas.

Made in New Jersey, starring Janet Montgomery as a working-class woman who battles her colleagues at a Manhattan law firm, will also run for a full series. Cop drama Golden Boy, starring Theo James, Chi McBride and Bonnie Somerville, has also been approved.

Groupon-based sitcom Friend Me has been picked up, starring Superbad's Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Brandon Routh will also star in young-adult sitcom Partners.

Finally, the network has approved unscripted reality series The Job from Mark Burnett and Michael Davies. The show follows contestants competing to win a job at a entertainment magazine.

CBS has also renewed Two and a Half Men for a tenth run.
