Say goodbye to ABC Family – and hello to Freeform.



The Disney-owned cable channel announced today that it will officially re-brand in 2016, to better fit with edgy programming like Pretty Little Liars and the upcoming Shadowhunters.

Freeform will be aiming at Becomers – ages 14 to 34 – without a massive overhaul of its programming lineup.

ABC Family's Tom Ascheim said today (October 6): "Freeform evokes the spirit and adventure of our audience.

"Freeform will deliver new, exciting original content as well as all the favourite shows our viewers already love on ABC Family."

ABC Family officially says goodbye in December with its traditional 25 Days of Christmas, giving way to the re-branding to kick off the New Year.

ABC Family – formerly known as The Family Channel and Fox Family Channel – took on its current name when it was bought by Disney in 2001.
