CBS has picked up a 13th season of “Criminal Minds,” adding another piece to what will be a largely intact 2017-18 schedule on the network

The show wasn’t part of the network’s en-masse renewal announcement in late March, but that’s not entirely unusual for “Criminal Minds.” Its renewal has been held up in the past as CBS and ABC Studios worked out a deal; this year was no different.

“Criminal Minds” is the longest-running scripted show currently airing on CBS, having premiered in fall 2005. Its ratings (like those of most broadcast shows) have fallen some this year; it’s averaging a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.47 million viewers the night it airs, down from 1.8 and just over 9 million last season. It rises to a 2.4 in adults 18-49 and 11.04 million viewers with a week of DVR and on-demand viewing.

Despite those losses, it’s the third highest-rated drama on CBS this season, behind “NCIS” and “Bull” and tied with “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

“Criminal Minds” has also gone through a number of cast changes this season, including the firing of long-time star Thomas Gibson before the season began. Former regular Paget Brewster returned, Aisha Tyler was bumped up from recurring guest star to regular, and Adam Rodriguez and Damon Gupton joined the BAU team.

All of them are expected to return next season, along with mainstays Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Matthew Gray Gubler and Kirsten Vangsness. Erica Messer remains on board as executive producer and showrunner.

With “Criminal Minds” now locked in, CBS has picked up 19 shows for next season.
