Tim Samaras and Carl Young, stars of the Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers, have been killed in the tornado that hit Oklahoma on Friday (May 31).
Nine people died after tornadoes hit the state, days after another tornado leveled parts of the Oklahoma City. The disaster prompted several charity efforts, including a special concert organised by Blake Shelton.
Samaras, his partner Carl Young and his son Paul Samaras were killed while chasing a tornado in the city of El Reno, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tim Samaras, his son Paul and their colleague Carl Young. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families," the Discovery network said in a statement.
Matt Hughes, another star of the Storm Chasers series, died in 2010 from unrelated causes.
An Oklahoma tornado special set to air Sunday evening (June 2) on Discovery will be dedicated to Samaras, his son and colleague.
The dedication will read: "In memory of Tim Samaras, Carl Young and Paul Samaras who died Friday, May 31st doing what they love, chasing storms."
Storm Chasers debuted on the Discovery Channel in 2007, and ran until its cancellation in 2011.
