Jersey Shore will end after its sixth season, it has been confirmed.
The reality series has not been renewed past its upcoming run by MTV.
Production recently finished on the latest season, which is set to premiere on Thursday, October 4.
While cast members were told that the sixth run may be their last season, they were reportedly not told until today (August 30).
A retrospective show titled Gym, Tan, Look Back will air before the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, September 6.
The Jersey Shore cast will also appear live on the red carpet during the VMA pre-show.
Jersey Shore's ratings have steadily dipped since its launch in 2009, and the castmembers had yet to extend their contracts beyond a sixth season.
Spin-off show Snooki & JWoww has already been renewed for a second season.
