‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ returns to UK chart summit

Still from Gnomeo & Juliet

Gnomeo & Juliet has reclaimed first place at the UK box office.

The 3D animation, which re-tells William Shakespeare’s classic tale with a cast of garden gnomes, takes in £2.5 million to lead the chart ahead of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Paul.

New release I Am Number Four debuts at number three, while the half-term school holidays helped boost animated films Yogi Bear and Tangled up to fourth and fifth place respectively.

Romantic comedy No Strings Attached (number eight), starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, and belated sequel West Is West (number ten) also debuted in the chart.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Cage’s high profile action film Drive Angry 3D and Anthony Hopkins-led horror The Rite fail to dent the top ten, landing at numbers 11 and 12.
