Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.
The Steve Coogan-led comedy, Partridge’s first outing on the big screen, held off strong competition from sequels Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and Grown Ups 2 to secure the number one spot.
Alpha Papa‘s total of £2.175 million, including previews from Wednesday and Thursday, was enough to edge past the impressive £2 million plus totals of its nearest rivals.
Speaking about his box office victory, Partridge offered up a statement through StudioCanal: “Now is not a time for gloating or celebration, more a time for healing old wounds, a time to say, ‘Let us join together in thanks that I am number one at the box office – Hallelujah’.”

The Lone Ranger found fresh box office woes as it only charted in fifth spot with £1.3 million.
