Les Misérables holds off Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty at UK box office

Les Misérables has topped the UK box office for the third consecutive weekend.

Tom Hooper’s movie musical, which stars Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, earned more than £4 million to hold off competition from Django Unchained.

New releases Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty both entered at numbers three and five respectively. With Life of Pi at number four, this means that the entire top five is made up of ‘Best Picture’ Oscar nominees.

Elsewhere, the critically-panned Movie 43 debuts at number seven with £787,648.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand opened at number 10 with a disappointing £539,000 from 356 cinemas. In contrast, the action icon’s last above-the-title film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines debuted with £6 million in 2003.
