Newton Faulkner has topped the UK albums chart with third LP Write It On Your Skin.
The Brit singer-songwriter emerged as the early favourite for number one after the album was revealed to be the biggest seller in the midweek charts.
It is Faulkner’s second number one record, as debut Hand Built by Robots reached the top spot after four weeks on release in 2007.
Faulkner said to OfficialCharts.com of his latest achievement: “I’ve been completely blown away by the response to this album. It was three years solid work, but so worth it!”
Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange debuts at number two, only 3,000 copies behind Faulkner, after the record was rush-released this week.
Ocean’s arrival bumps Maroon 5’s Overexposed down to three, while hotly-tipped South Londoner Lianne La Havas debuts at four with her first album Is Your Love Big Enough?. Last week’s chart-topper, Chris Brown’s Fortune, completes the top five.
Other new entries this week come from Scottish rockers The View, whose Cheeky For a Reason goes straight in at nine, and Adam Lambert’s Trespassing, entering the chart at 16. Canadian prog-rock stars Rush’s 19th studio album Clockwork Angels also makes its debut at 21.
Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now is this week’s highest climber, jumping 24 places from 56 to 32, while the self-titled debut album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds is also up seven places to 26.
