Andrew Garfield’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ tops UK box office

The Amazing Spider-Man has shot straight to the top of the UK box office on its debut weekend on release.

The Andrew Garfield-led superhero reboot pulls in more than £11 million to easily coast past its competition and secure the number one spot.

Amazing Spider-Man‘s opening total, which includes previews from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, is more than the rest of the top ten combined and the second-highest UK debut of the year behind Avengers‘ £15.78 million haul.

Ice Age 4: Continental Drift falls down a place to number two, while The Five-Year Engagement holds its spot at number three.

Katy Perry’s 3D concert movie Part of Me lands at number four with £449,491 from its 326 locations. The documentary’s total falls short of last year’s Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which took £821,000 on its opening weekend, but outpaces Glee: The 3D Concert Movie‘s £356,271 from last August.

Elsewhere, the only other new release to make it into the top ten is Bollywood film Bol Bachchan at number eight.
