Air pellet misses baby but injures mother in Coventry

A pellet missed a baby by inches but injured its mother in an air gun attack in Coventry.

The 33-year-old was carrying her one-year-old daughter along Broomfield Road, Earlsdon, at 1730BST on Wednesday when she was hit in the right shoulder.

West Midlands Police said it could have been fatal had it struck the child.

Officers want to trace two men and a woman who came to her aid after the incident.

Det Con Shaun Garnham said the woman was carrying her daughter in the same arm that received the pellet wound.

'Nasty injury'

"The lady suffered a nasty injury, with the pellet lodged beneath her skin, but it could have had fatal consequences had it struck such a young child," he said.

Police appealed for witnesses, particularly the three people who helped the woman after she was hit.

They were two men who were outside a Premier convenience store on Broomfield Road and a woman loading her car nearby. The woman is thought to have been dressed in a care worker's uniform.

Mr Garnham also asked anyone else who may have been injured but had not bothered to report it to contact officers.
