A female resident told CoventryLive she has lived in the area for 55 years and she has “never seen anything like it before”.

The road was sealed off for at least two hours while police dealt with the incident.

A neighbour said she was told police were responding to reports of someone with a gun in a house in the street.

This is unconfirmed.

Armed police arrest alleged gunman after shots heard inside Coventry house



A man has been arrested after shots were heard coming from inside a Coventry house.

Armed police were called to Grange Road, in Longford, just after 2.30pm yesterday afternoon (Monday, September 9).

Residents were trapped in their homes as the specialist firearms officers cordoned off the road.

Hours later, a 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Police recovered an air rifle from the address.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The cordon was in place until at least 5.15pm - almost three hours after police were called to the road.

West Midlands Police would not confirm when they left the scene.

They would also not confirm how many officers attended the incident, or if there was a stand-off between the gunman and police.

A man has been released without further action after gun shots were heard at a house in Coventry.

Armed police were called to Grange Road, in Longford, just after 2.30pm on Monday (September 9).

Residents were trapped in their homes as the specialist firearms officers cordoned off the road.

Hours later, a 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Police recovered an air rifle from the address.

He has now been released.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The 38-year-old man has been released with no further action."

A man caught up in an armed police drama in Coventry and arrested says he fears people have branded him “like the Krays” or “a terrorist”.

And he called the whole episode “a misunderstanding” after he was released and told there would be no action taken against him by police.

Will Markham spoke out following his arrest on Monday September 9 in Grange Road, Longford, after he said he had been using an air rifle to shoot at rats.

Armed police were called to the road just after 2.30pm on Monday.

Residents were trapped in their homes as firearms officers cordoned off the road.

Mr Markahm said he spent 15 hours in police custody following his arrest but was eventually released without any further action.

He said the police even called and paid for a taxi to take him home as he had no money on him.

He added police have said his air rifle and other property taken can now be returned to him.
