The southern section of a Warwickshire relief road has opened. The Rugby Western Relief Road has taken longer than anticipated to construct owing to unforeseen circumstances, Warwickshire County Council said.
It said it is anticipated traffic congestion in Cawston and Bilton would be "significantly reduced".
The target for opening the remaining section is the first week of October, but every effort is being made to bring this date forward, it added.
Councillor Alan Cockburn, the council's portfolio holder for environment and economy, said: "The scheme has taken longer than anticipated to construct owing to many unforeseen circumstances.
"I would like to thank the people of Rugby for their patience while the construction work progressed."
