Five injured in serious crash in Spon End

A major road in to Coventry remains closed after a serious crash on Sunday morning



Police have taped off a section of Spon End and Butts Road following the collision between a car and a taxi.

The crash, which happened at around 6am, saw four people trapped inside a Volkswagen Golf who had to be cut free by fire crews.

The driver of the taxi was also "assisted" from the vehicle and all five were taken to University Hospital in Walsgrave.

West Midlands Police say all five have suffered serious injuries, with some suffering potentially life-changing injuries.

A police cordon remains in place and witnesses are being urged to come forward.
