A weekend of non-stop motoring and free family fun is coming to Coventry – the UK’s historic ‘motor city’

MotoFest arrives on tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday (June 1 and 2) and promises four-wheel thrills, music, great food and lots more.

There are three venues where petrolheads can get up close and feel the excitement of live motorsport action.

This will result in widespread road closures as the city’s road network gears up to double as a race track once more.

Major arteries including parts of the city’s ring road will be closed during the weekend, as well as London Road, Holyhead Road and Greyfriars Road.

The weekend will feature the GT Radial Sprint Circuit which is hosting rounds 9 and 10 of the BARC Connaught National Speed Championship, plus, classic vehicle demos and iconic vehicle debuts.

The event is to host Citroën UK’s celebration of its 100th year anniversary with a spectacular 1,000 classic car parade.

And after three years, racing trucks will also return to the festival.

Touring car legend Jason Plato will become the latest British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) driver to take on the unique ring road circuit.

The two-time British Touring Car (BTCC) Champion and record holder for the most BTCC race wins, will be put through his paces on Saturday.

The Supercar Driver club (SCD) will also make its second consecutive appearance at Power Maxed MotoFest Coventry with 100 members and their cars, double the amount of last year, set to appear across the festival weekend.

The Skydome Fueltopia Arena will be the home of a Formula Gymkhana Champion of Champions, along with drift demos from Michelle Westby, stunt bikes and more.

And in the Autotest Arena you can see the Autotest National Championship Qualifiers as well as an Autosolo passenger experience and IUDRO UK drone racing nationals.

But organisers are also offering three music stages including a community stage, a folk stage, or one offering rock, dance and funk.

There will be a photography exhibition, an artist painting with cars, and an orchestral concert.

There’s also family fun at the official opening celebration of the new Radford Road fire station on Sunday.

And the Jaguar Land Rover Zone will be full of amazing content for all ages; youngsters aged between three and 10 can even take a mini Land Rover for a spin.

There will also be a Global Street Food Village for Texas-style smoked meats, ethically farmed British burgers, Italian meatballs, Mexican burritos and more.

For full details of all the events download an event guide here.

A full list of road closures is available here.

They weren't 'closed' at all, it was the Ring Road between them.

CCC want to bring in a congestion charge for polution of traffic then closed off part of the Holyhead Rd because of polution yet then allows a Motofest here what hypocrits. They don't even sponsor any of it they just allow the Ring road to be used.

If they haven't treated the road surface to remove the tyre debris it'll be like a skidpan come the first downpour
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

It is said Melisandra that this event brings 140,000 visitors to the city all spending money. I doubt that figure but even if it is correct not one penny of that money will end up in our pockets. Perhaps the council will benefit with all the extra car park fees. Perhaps extra traffic wardens were out there ruining peoples day out.
As for air pollution. Have you driven on the ring road at weekends? I would think that the Motor Fest produces less pollution than the thousands of cars that use it on an average weekend. Just my opinion, perhaps the council will publish the figures

Yes plus the fees of cars on show to park up to be viewed by the public as my grandson showed his car but his friend who owns businesses here paid for ten of the lads cars to be shown.

Then our police doing a lowdown dirty trick when these peoples cars are parked up on show not knowing that the police are going around taking all the the registrations of these cars. Seems we are in a Marxist country now.

To be honest Jock Strap I have nt been to the town for years and don't wish to so I would nt know how many cars use the ring road now on a week end or any other time.

The ring road was deserted just before lunch today. Normal or not I wouldn't know as I rarely use it these days.

What did strike me though was the amount of change that has gone on around the city. Not all of it is for the better.

It's ugly is nt it Rebbonk you go down the Radford Rd it's like a giant wall then the black wall of death which I call it the Fire station.

I am awaiting to see how this affects our weather as lots of tall buildings do affect the weather.
