This shocking photo shows what was left of a car after it rolled over multiple times and smashed in to a tree - and the driver somehow walked away.

Firefighters have said it is "ridiculous" that whoever was inside the car managed to escape the wreckage in Lockhurst Lane, Foleshill.

They even described the car - which is believed to have been stolen - as being "annihilated".

Fire crews and police were called to the crash shortly before 1am today (Tuesday, May 28).

Simon Hall, crew commander from Foleshill station, said: "It came off the road - how anyone walked away from that is ridiculous.

"The car was annihilated.

"A witness said that it rolled about five times. It also hit a tree and ripped metal poles out of the ground."

He said that firefighters flipped the car over to ensure that there was nobody trapped underneath.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to Lockhurst Lane in the Foleshill area of Coventry just before 1am this morning (Tuesday, May 28) where a car had flipped on its side.

"It is believed the sole occupant of the car fled the scene.

"The suspected stolen car has been recovered and enquiries continue."
