A woman is fighting for her life following a suspected hit-and-run in Coventry.

Police were called to Roseberry Avenue, in Bell Green, shortly after midnight this morning (Friday, May 3).

The woman, who is in her 50s, was taken to hospital and she remains in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police believe she was injured in a hit-and-run and added that a 64-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and remains in police custody.

A section of Roseberry Avenue, by the entrance to Riley Square car park, was cordoned off following the incident and a small, grey tent was set up in the middle of the road.

A forensics officer was at the scene this morning to take photos and gather evidence before the road reopened at around 9.30am.

Detective Sergeant Kelly Mills, from West Midlands Police CID, said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation to determine how this woman was injured.

"We believe there were two men at the scene in a blue car and we are directly appealing to them as they could hold key information into what happened.

"We are also appealing to anyone who saw a silver Volvo convertible in the area at the time and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward."
