A woman who had a machete in a city street has avoided going to prison

Sophie McDonagh was found guilty of having the offensive weapon in Fingal Close, Willenhall, on September 16.

She had denied the charge but was convicted at Coventry Magistrates' Court.

The 22-year-old, of Lynmouth Road, Henley Green, had admitted wilfully obstructing a police officer on the same date.

McDonagh was handed a six-month prison sentence which was suspended for a year.

She was also banned from driving for a year after pleading guilty to further charges including two counts of driving without a licence, two counts of driving without insurance and failing to answer bail.

Magistrates also ordered her to pay £100 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
