Warning as police investigate attempted abduction of 15-year-old girl in Coventry

Schools in the area have been made aware of the incident

Police are investigating the attempted abduction of a teenage girl in Coventry.

The 15-year-old was in Momus Boulevard, Stoke, when she was approached by an Asian man in an old model silver Volkswagen Golf or Polo at around 5pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Coventry Police said: "The car had a registration plate beginning with B and the man was aged in his 30s and is described as 'chubby'.

"He asked the girl to get into his car twice, before she ran off and alerted her parents.

"Local schools are aware of the incident and police patrols in the area have been increased.

"The incident is being investigated as an attempted abduction and officers are in the process of conducting house-to-house enquiries and gathering CCTV from the local area."

Man arrested after attempted abduction of 15-year-old girl in Coventry

A man has been arrested after the attempted abduction of a school girl in Coventry earlier this week.

Police have confirmed that the 21-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction last night.

He remains in police custody this morning.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The offender asked the school girl to get into his car twice, before she ran off and alerted her parents.

"Local schools are aware of the incident and police patrols in the area have been increased.

"Officers continue to investigate what happened and are in the process of conducting house to house enquiries and gathering CCTV from the local area."

Update on man arrested on suspicion of trying to abduct schoolgirl

A man arrested on suspicion of trying to abduct a schoolgirl in Coventry has been released by police.

The 21-year-old man was arrested a day after it was reported to police that a 15-year-old girl in Momus Boulevard, Stoke, was approached by a man in a vehicle, at around 5pm on May 1.

At the time, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said it was reported that a man "asked the schoolgirl to get into his car twice, before she ran off and alerted her parents".

The arrested man was released under investigation and the force has now stated that he has been released with no further action to be taken.
