A kitten killer attacked the defenceless animal leaving it with a fractured skull and a broken jaw

Lee Nicholson, from Coventry, pleaded guilty to the horrific act of violence that happened while he was staying at a friend's house.

Nicholson admitted the attack which killed the kitten, called Gizmo, at an address in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, on January 12.

He was handed a lifetime ban on keeping animals and a 12-month community order including 250 hours of unpaid work.

He was also made to pay £585 costs.

Tameside Magistrates’ Court heard how Nicholson, of Sewall Highway, Wyken, was staying over at a couple’s house who he was friends with when the incident happened.

The couple had gone to bed and left Nicholson sleeping downstairs with their pets - a female cat and her four kittens.

When they went to investigate some noise which disturbed them in the early hours of the morning, the couple found their guest had left and were heartbroken to discover their pet white tortoiseshell kitten was dead.

They called the RSPCA and the animal welfare charity sent inspector Natalie Avery to investigate.

She said: “I was sickened by what I saw. The kitten had multiple skull fractures and a fractured jaw - it was such a cruel act against a defenceless animal.

“During the night the couple heard Nicholson complain the mother cat had urinated on him and then heard some noise downstairs so it is understood this was an act of vengeance.

“There is never an excuse for such heartless and unpleasant behaviour, or for showing such a lack of empathy towards any animal by behaving in this way.”
