These are the shocking photos of the aftermath of an incident which saw a car smash through railings over a pedestrian crossing today.

The incident took place this afternoon in Chapelfields .

Police were called to the junction of Allesley Old Road, Hearsall Lane and Spon End, after the car crashed in dramatic fashion.

The exact time of the incident is unknown, though West Midlands Police revealed that they were called shortly after 1pm.

Thankfully, no one, including the driver, is believed to have been seriously injured.

However, pictures taken from the scene show both the car and the railings around a pedestrian crossing island to be in a sorry state.

The cause of the crash remains unclear.

At least one police car was in attendance at the scene preventing traffic from approaching until the incident had been resolved.

That crossing has always been a death trap, pedestrians can't see traffic coming from the direction of Spon End. I always cross at a right-angle to the oncoming vehicles, outside of the crossing island.

"The cause of the crash is unclear" ??? The driver was either going to fast to round the bend or possibly on his phone. I use that junction often and have negotiated that bend no problem. So have tens of thousands of other drivers.

I somehow don't think the car would've gone through those railings if it was only doing 30MPH.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
