Men charged with kidnapping, torture, and conspiracy to murder Coventry man after disappearance
Four people have been charged with conspiracy to murder over the death of a Coventry man. Johnny Robbins [pictured above] disappeared in March 2018, and it is alleged that he was tortured before being murdered.
His death was linked to the murder of Daniel Shaw, who was found with gunshot injuries on Copland Place in Tile Hill on March 25, 2018, although detectives have not yet been able to gather sufficient evidence to charge anyone in relation to his death. Today, five people were arrested in early morning raids at addresses in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Sam Jones, 26, and Ben Whyley, 36, were subsequently charged with kidnap, false imprisonment, wounding with intent, and conspiracy to murder, Coventry Police said. Jordan Doswell, 29, and Junior Makosso, 28, have both been charged with false imprisonment, wounding with intent, and conspiracy to murder and remain in custody this morning (July 28).
Thomas Young, 29, has been charged with kidnap and false imprisonment, Coventry Police said. "All five men are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court this afternoon (July 28)."
Police said the charges relate to the kidnapping, torture, and murder of Johnny Robbins. Detectives have not yet been able to gather sufficient evidence to charge anyone in relation to the death of Daniel Shaw.
Six other people who were arrested or voluntarily interviewed last year as part of the investigation will face no further action, with investigations into the murders ongoing. Police are also still searching for Coventry man Ryan Hobday.
Hobday, who was aged 28 in 2018, is wanted in connection with the murders of Daniel and Johnny. Officers say they are still searching for him but it is believed he may also have been murdered.
Senior Investigating Officer Jenny Birch said: “It is a really significant development in our investigation into the deaths of Johnny and Daniel. We have said from the outset that we were absolutely committed to establishing the truth behind what happened to them, and that has been true throughout the many years we have been investigating.
“We have spoken to the families of Johnny and Daniel today to update them on the latest developments and will continue to support them. Seven years have passed, and allegiances change. We still need people with information about what happened to do the right thing, pick up the phone, and tell us what you know.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Anyone with information on the location of Hobday, or with any other information, has been asked to get in touch via 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
