A man was rushed to hospital with a police escort after falling from a bridge over a busy city road.

As many as six police cars, two ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance arrived at the scene after the man fell in Radford Road, right in front of shocked motorists, at around 5.30pm today.

The road was blocked off in both directions while the injured man, having first been comforted by passers-by, was treated for around 30 minutes by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to hospital.

The ambulance was escorted by a police car on blue lights as it made its way on to the Coventry Ring Road.

The man's injuries and his condition are currently unknown.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to reports of a man falling from a height on Radford Road, Coventry at 5.35pm this afternoon (5 July).

"The severity of his injuries are yet to be established."

While medics from the two ambulances initially treated the man, the Midlands Air Ambulance arrived overhead, scouring the area for a place to land.

A patch of wasteland was eventually spotted behind Nauls Mill House - a block of flats - before the critical care medics from the helicopter joined their colleagues to treat the injured man.

Once the man had gone to hospital and all the other emergency vehicles had left the scene, Radford Road was reopened to traffic at around 6.30pm.

I wonder if this was the same guy who was talked down a few days back?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
