The two adults were confirmed dead at the scene of the crash on the A4177 between Hatton and Hatton Park, Warwickshire Police said.

One pupil from Aylesford School, in Warwick, was airlifted to hospital after the incident at about 1600 BST.

Thirty pupils were assessed and a total of five required hospital treatment, Warwickshire County Council said.

A council spokesperson said: "The bus was carrying around 30 secondary school children from Alyesford and Myton schools, most of which had suffered with minor cuts and bruises.

"One boy had to be cut free from the bus and was airlifted to hospital."

All the children were assessed by the ambulance service before they were allowed to go home.

Ch Insp Lucy Sewell, of Warwickshire Police said: "We will be thoroughly investigating the scene of this collision to try to find out the circumstances surrounding how it occurred.

"At this time our thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives and we will be ensuring they receive the full support of our family liaison officers."

School pupils describe fatal bus crash in Warwickshire

Pupils who had been on board a bus involved in a crash in Warwickshire in which two adults died have been describing what happened.

The adults died at the scene of the crash on the A4177, between Hatton and Hatton Park, on Tuesday afternoon.

A third adult, a woman, was also hurt, while a 16-year-old schoolboy was knocked unconscious. Four more pupils were treated for minor injuries.

One pupil said they had felt a "bump" and then the bus hit a tree.

The pupils were from Myton School and Aylesford School, both in Warwick.

'Bus shook'

The remaining 16 pupils who were not injured were allowed home after being checked over by paramedics.

Helen Shaw, aged 12, said she and a friend had been sitting behind the bus driver.

"We heard a bump and the bus shook," she said.

"We thought it just a little knock but then we ended up in a tree."

Her mother, Wendy Shaw, said she was grateful most of the children got out of the bus safely and said her thoughts were with the families of those who were not so lucky.

Police said the accident involved the single-decker bus and two cars.

Ch Insp Lucy Sewell said police were "thoroughly investigating" the scene of the collision to find out how the crash had happened.
