EuroMillions record £84m lottery winner 'anonymous'

The winner of the UK's biggest lottery jackpot has decided to remain anonymous, Camelot has said.

The ticket-holder, who won £84.4m on EuroMillions on Friday, came forward to claim their prize on Sunday and has asked not to be publicly identified.

It is not known if the ticket belongs to an individual or syndicate.

The jackpot win smashed the previous record lottery prize of £56m won by Nigel Page and Justine Laycock in February, also in a EuroMillions draw.

Advice offered

A National Lottery spokesman would not say whether the ticket-holder was an individual or part of a syndicate, but said they would be offered the full support of Camelot's Winner Services Team.

"As with all major jackpot winners, they will receive independent financial and legal advice as well as ongoing personal support.

"In addition several previous jackpot winners have offered their support and best wishes," he said.

The five winning numbers in Friday's draw were 1, 17, 31, 43 and 47, with the Lucky Star numbers 2 and 3.

If the ticket is held by an individual, it would make them the 789th richest person in the country, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2010.

It would put them on a par with pop star Robbie Williams and Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who it said are both worth £85m.

EuroMillions is played across Europe. Tickets can be bought in countries including France, the Irish Republic, Portugal and Spain.
