A place where people used to catch a cab on the outskirts of Nuneaton town centre will soon become somewhere they can grab a coffee.

The former taxi booking office in Bond Street is set to become a café, which will be open seven days a week and into the late evenings in a bid to capture passing trade from the nearby train station and also the gym.

Planning permission has been granted for the change of use of the building but another proposal has been submitted, so that it can have security shutters at the front.

In the application, it states: “The café would exist at ground floor only and be refurbished to a high specification.

“It is intended to focus on healthy sandwiches (hot and cold) made on site and pre-made salads, pastas, desserts, shakes, hot and cold drinks and quick snacks.

“It is intended to install tablets so commuters/customers can surf the web and so forth.”

The Oasis dental surgery will remain on the first floor and continue to be accessed via the door and staircase to the right of the existing ground floor shopfront and have a rear fire access.”

The latest application will be determined by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council which has set a target decision date of March 16.
