Storm Eleanor threat forces council to cancel Nuneaton street market

The threat of high winds has forced council bosses to scrap Nuneaton's Wednesday market.

Following concerns raised by the Met Office about Storm Eleanor, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has cancelled tomorrow's market.

They said that the gusts of winds are set to exceed the safe tolerance for market stalls.

Regular market traders with perishable goods have been invited to trade from vehicles if they want to and, at the time of publication, some traders were expected to turn up.

Alan Franks, managing director at the Town Hall, explained: “Storm Eleanor has impacted the regular street market in Nuneaton, along with many others across the country.

“It is always unfortunate when weather conditions prevent our market traders from operating as normal, but public safety is absolutely paramount.

"Understandably, shoppers will be disappointed but I am sure that most people will share our concerns about the dangers of market stalls being blown over.”
