The Entertainer is staying SHUT on Christmas Eve - missing out on the chance to bring in millions through the tills.

But Gary Grant, whose chain The Entertainer has 149 branches, says it's for a very good reason.

Mr Grant told The Mirror that he will give his 1,700 staff the day off, even though it means missing out on an estimated £2.3million.

He says his Christian faith means he will never trade on Sundays - even if it's one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The chain has branches in Coventry and Warwickshire, including the Lower Precinct.

Mr Grant said: “We don’t trade on Sundays – any Sundays.

“Keeping the Sabbath holy is one of the Ten Commandments.

"We will be closed for the second-largest trading day of the year.

“As a Christian, I believe in families.

"For our staff, the fact they have a day off with the family on a Sunday is really important.”

Gary, whose firm is based in Amersham, Bucks, said: “People said, ‘What, even with Christmas Eve being a Sunday you’re closed?’

“I say, what’s the difference? The principle is a day of rest.”
